Ήξερες ότι η Marilyn έχει διαβάσει ολόκληρο τον “Οδυσσέα” του James Joyce; Μάλλον όχι. Ότι ήταν κορίτσι του πνεύματος και έγραφε δικά της ποιήματα; Αποκλείεται. Αλλά είναι αλήθεια. Υπάρχουν ντοκουμέντα….
Η Marilyn λάτρευε να φωτογραφίζεται διαβάζοντας ή κρατώντας ένα βιβλίο, κόνσεπτ που δεν ήταν και το πιο αγαπημένο των φωτογράφων και των image makers που έχτισαν το οικοδόμημα του sex symbol Marilyn.
Παρ’ όλ’ αυτά, η αγάπη της Monroe για την λογοτεχνία ήταν μεγάλη, αφού φέρεται πως στην βιβλιοθήκη του σπιτιού της είχε περισσότερα από 400 βιβλία. Από Ντοστογιέφκσι μέχρι Κέρουακ. Μάλιστα, τις μέρες που το πρόγραμμα δεν είχε γυρίσματα ή φωτογραφήσεις, η Marilyn παρακολουθούσε μαθήματα Λογοτεχνίας και Ιστορίας στο UCLA.
Μπορεί στο μυαλό μας να έχει εντυπωθεί περισσότερο ως η πανέμορφη σταρ με το λευκό φόρεμα που σηκώνει σκανδαλιστικά ο αέρας, αλλά η Monroe ήταν πολύ περισσότερα από αυτό. Τα χειρόγραφά ποιήματά της που κυκλοφόρησαν για πρώτη φορά στο λεύκωμα “Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, Letters” αποκαλύπτουν μια πολυσύνθετη, ευαίσθητη και εύθραυστη Marilyn που δύσκολα θα φανταζόσουν.
Ρίχνοντας μια ματιά στο -μέχρι πρότινος- ανέκδοτο έργο της, το μάτι τραβούν μονόστιχα όπως “Θεέ, εύχομαι να ήμουν νεκρή”, “νιώσε αυτό που νιώθω μέσα μου” και “το να έχω την καρδιά σου είναι το μόνο εντελώς ευτυχισμένο πράγμα που μου ανήκε μέχρι τώρα”.
